Chris Diamantopoulos is the favorite to play Moe Howard in 20th Century Fox's "The Three Stooges" film.
According to Variety, Peter and Bobby Farrelly are writing and directing the film with a release date set for next year.
The cast includes Sean Hayes as Larry Fine and Will Sasso as Curly Howard.
Sofia Vergara is in talks for the female lead.
The Farrellys are producing with their Conundrum partner Bradley Thomas and Charles B. Wessler.
The PG-rated film will not be a straight-forward narrative but rather three, 27-minute segments with trademark Stooges physical comedy.
Shooting is set to begin in the summer in Atlanta.
Diamantopoulos has an extensive list of TV credits that include "24" and "The Starter Wife."
He was recently seen as Frank Sinatra in the TV miniseries "The Kennedys."
