Paula Malcomson joins 'Hunger Games'

Paula Malcomson has joined the cast of Lionsgate's 2012 tentpole "The Hunger Games."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cast includes Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Amandla Stenberg, Dayo Okeniyi, Leven Rambin, Jack Quaid and Willow Shields.
Elizabeth Banks is also in talks to join the cast.
Malcomson will play the mother of Katniss (Lawrence) and Prim (Shields).
Gary Ross ("Seabiscuit," "Pleasantville") is directing the feature adaptation of Suzanne
Collins' bestselling young adult novel.
Billy Ray is writing the adaptation.
"Hunger Games" is the first in a trilogy of science fiction novels that have developed a massive global following. The other two books in the trilogy are "Catching Fire" and "Mockingjay."
Set in post-apocalyptic America, the book focuses on 16-year-old heroine Katniss Everdeen (Lawrence), who must participate in a fight-to-the-death annually televised event called the Hunger Games, which pits youths against each other.
Nina Jacobson is producing through her Color Force production shingle with Jon Kilik.
Shooting is set to begin in the summer.
The film will open on March 23, 2012.
Malcomson has appeared in the TV shows "Deadwood," "ER," "Sons of Anarchy" and "Caprica."
