'Rio' wins domestic box office

20th Century Fox's 3D-animated film "Rio" won the domestic box office over the weekend as it had the best U.S. opening of the year with $40 million.
According to Variety, the Weinstein Co.'s horror film "Scream 4" opened in the No. 2 spot with $19.3 million.
Universal's "Hop" finished in the No. 3 spot with $11.2 million for a domestic cumulative of $82.6 million.
Sony's sports drama "Soul Surfer" placed No. 4 with $7.4 million for a domestic cumulative of $20 million.
Focus Features' "Hanna" came in at No. 5 with $7.3 million for a domestic cumulative of $23.3 million.
