Universal Pictures is in negotiations to distribute and finance Joseph Kosinski's sci-fi action film "Oblivion" with Tom Cruise attached to star.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film had been set up at Disney which ended up passing on the project due to the fact that the film would be PG-13 and Disney wanted a PG film.
William Monahan wrote the original script with Karl Gajdusek doing a rewrite.
The film is based on an idea by Kosinski that ended up being a graphic novel written by Barry Levine.
Kosinski, who directed "Tron: Legacy" for Disney, is producing with Levine and Jeffrey Silver.
The story is set in an apocalyptic future where most of the population lives in clouds above an uninhabitable earth. An earthbound soldier, who fixes drones that destroy a hostile alien life form, encounters a beautiful woman whose ship crashes.
