Tobey Maguire joins 'Life of Pi'

Tobey Maguire has joined the cast of Fox 2000's big screen adaptation of Yann Martel's novel "Life of Pi."
According to Variety, Ang Lee is directing the 3D fantasy adventure with shooting underway in India.
David Magee ("Finding Neverland") wrote the adaptation.
Gill Netter and David Womark are producing.
The cast includes Irrfan Khan, Gerard Depardieu, Adil Hussain and Bollywood actress Tabu.
The novel tells the story of a boy (Pi) lost at sea for 227 days in a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger, a hyena, a zebra and an orangutan after the ship carrying his family and its zoo animals sinks.
17-year-old newcomer Suraj Sharma is playing the title role.
Maguire will play a reporter who interviews the adult Pi (Khan).
Fox will release the film on December 14, 2012.
Maguire and Lee worked together on "The Ice Storm" and "Ride With the Devil."
