By Adnan Tezer Apr 11, 2011, 19:42 GMT
Michael Shannon will play the villain General Zod in Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures' "Superman: Man of Steel", opposite Henry Cavill as Superman.
According to Variety, the cast also includes Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as Martha and Jonathan Kent.
General Zod led the military forces on Superman's home planet of Krypton.
Terence Stamp played Zod in 1978's "Superman" and 1980's "Superman II."
Zack Snyder ("300," "Watchmen," "Sucker Punch") is directing with shooting set for August in Pittsburgh.
The film is set for a December 2012 release before Warners could potentially lose the copyright on the character in 2013.
Christopher Nolan will produce with wife Emma Thomas, as well as Charles Roven ("The Dark Knight") and Deborah Snyder ("Watchmen," "Sucker Punch").
David S. Goyer ("Batman Begins") is writing the script, based on a story he conceived with Nolan.
Plot details are being kept under wraps.
Shannon received an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor for "Revolutionary Road" and can be seen on HBO's "Boardwalk Empire."
