By Adnan Tezer Apr 1, 2011, 19:07 GMT
Warner Bros. has given an official greenlight for their 1940s cop movie "Gangster Squad."
According to Variety, Ruben Fleischer ("Zombieland") will direct.
"Gangster Squad" is based on a seven-part Los Angeles Times article written by Paul Lieberman that details how, during 1940s corruption and chaos, the LAPD created a special unit called the Gangster Squad to prevent the East Coast mafia from infecting the city.
Dan Lin and Kevin McCormick are producing.
Former LAPD officer Will Beall wrote the screenplay.
Sean Penn and Ryan Gosling are considered to be the leading candidates for the two male leads although no offers have officially been made yet.
