Twentieth Century Fox is moving up the release date of its "Planet of the Apes" prequel "Rise of the Apes" from November 23 to August 5, 2011.
According to Variety, Fox is hoping that the film can be the last big summer event film in its new slot.
James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow and Andy Serkis star in the film.
Rupert Wyatt directed from a script by Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa.
Set in present day San Francisco, the film deals with the aftermath of genetic engineering experiments that lead to intelligence in apes and a war for supremacy.
In its new release date, "Apes" will go up against Sony's cartoon "The Smurfs," Universal's comedy "The Change-Up" and Summit’s 3D sci-fi thriller "The Darkest Hour."
