Zac Efron has agreed to star in Mandate Pictures' untitled romantic action film, with Swedish commercial director Fredrik Bond making his feature directorial debut.
According to Variety, Matt Drake wrote the film, originally titled "The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman."
Efron plays a young man who travels to Eastern Europe and falls for an exotic young woman whose dangerous mob-tied ex-boyfriend stands between them and happiness.
Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa of Bona Fide Productions will produce along with William Horberg.
Carlo Martinelli will co-produce and Mandate president Nathan Kahane and Dean Parisot will executive produce.
Fredrik Bond has directed ads for Nike, Levis, Adidas, Guinness and Heineken; and has been nominated three times for the Directors Guild of America's outstanding director in commercials.
Efron recently wrapped the Warner Brothers-Scott Hicks film "The Lucky One" as well as New Line's Garry Marshall romantic comedy "New Year's Eve."
