'Battle: Los Angeles' tops weekend box office

Sony's sci-fi action film "Battle: Los Angeles" won the domestic box office over the weekend as it debuted with $36 million.
According to Variety, Paramount's 3D cartoon "Rango" placed No. 2 for the weekend with $23.1 million for a domestic cumulative of $68.6 million.
Warner Bros.' "Red Riding Hood" debuted in the No. 3 spot with $14.1 million.
Universal's "The Adjustment Bureau" came in at No. 4 with $11.5 million for a domestic cumulative of $38.5 million.
Disney's 3D cartoon "Mars Needs Moms," with a hefty $150 million budget, severely disappointed as it debuted in the No. 5 spot with $6.8 million.
