Guillermo Del Toro going to the 'Pacific Rim'

Guillermo del Toro will direct Legendary Pictures' monster movie "Pacific Rim."
According to Variety, a September 2011 production start date has been set with a summer 2013 release date in mind.
Del Toro will produce with Legendary's Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni.
Travis Beacham wrote the script.
The film centers on a group of humans who unite to fight off an extraterrestrial force that threatens the Earth's existence.
Del Toro had been working on an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's "At the Mountains of Madness" for Universal, but problems arose over budget and rating.
Del Toro had insisted on an R rating while Universal wanted a more audience-friendly PG-13.
Even with James Cameron producing and Tom Cruise loosely attached to star, Universal had doubts that an R-rated horror film would be able to gross twice the projected $150 million budget in order to make their money back.
Del Toro last directed 2008's "Hellboy 2: The Golden Army," which grossed more than $150 million worldwide.
