Black Swan dominates Independent Spirit Awards
Feb 27, 2011, 8:27 GMT
Los Angeles - Ballet drama Black Swan dominated the Independent Spirit Awards Saturday, winning four trophies, including best feature, best director and best actress for Natalie Portman.
The film by director Darren Aronofsky, also took home the prize for best cinematography.
The awards came just one day before the independent movie vies with mainstream Hollywood fare at the Oscars, where The King's Speech is the favourite for glory. The British royal drama won the award for best foreign film at the Spirit Awards, but will compete in the main categories at the Oscars.
Another Oscar contender who tasted victory at the Spirit Awards was James Franco, who won the best actor prize for his role in the film 127 Hours. Franco is due to co-host the Oscars with Anne Hathaway, and is also nominated for a best actor Academy Award.
Lesbian comedy The Kids Are All Right won the prize for best original screenplay, while Exit Through The Gift Shop was named the year's best documentary. The film was supposedly directed by secretive British graffiti artist Banksy.
The two supporting actor awards went to Dale Dickey and John Hawkes, both of whom appeared in the somber drug drama Winter's Bone.
