Martin Scorsese will direct the long-in-the-works adaptation of Jordan Belfort's memoir "The Wolf of Wall Street," with Leonardo DiCaprio starring.
According to Variety, the film had been set up at Warner Bros. in May 2007 with Scorsese and DiCaprio attached but Scorsese eventually dropped out.
Terence Winter ("The Sopranos," "Boardwalk Empire") will adapt the screenplay.
Alexandra Milchan, DiCaprio's Appian Way and Scorsese are producing.
The film focuses on Belfort's rise and fall on Wall Street, along with his hard-partying ways and troubled personal life, which included drug addiction.
He was indicted in 1998 for securities fraud and money laundering and spent 22 months in federal prison.
He has been sober for almost 14 years and become a motivational speaker and corporate trainer.
DiCaprio and Scorsese have collaborated on "Gangs of New York," "Shutter Island," "The Aviator" and "The Departed."
Scorsese is in post-production on "Hugo Cabret."
DiCaprio is currently shooting the J. Edgar Hoover biopic "J. Edgar," directed by Clint Eastwood.
