Zach Galifianakis is in advanced talks to join Universal's adaptation of the Dark Horse comic "R.I.P.D."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, he would star opposite Ryan Reynolds in the film, being directed by German director Robert Schwentke ("Red," "Flightplan," "The Time Traveler's Wife").
The supernatural action comedy is being produced by Dark Horse Entertainment's Mike Richardson along with Neal Moritz and David Dobkin.
Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi wrote the script based on Peter Lenkov's comic.
The story centers on a murdered cop (Reynolds) who is recruited to work in the Rest in Peace Department (RIPD), a police force comprised of ghosts that battles spirits unwilling to depart the world.
Galifianakis would play Reynolds' wise-cracking ghost partner.
He will be seen next in "The Hangover Part 2," which opens May 26.
