Tyler Perry will play the iconic detective-psychologist Alex Cross in "I, Alex Cross," an origin tale based on the books of James Patterson.
According to Variety, Rob Cohen will direct for QED International.
Patterson and Kerry Williamson wrote the first draft of the script, which Marc Moss will polish.

Shooting is set to begin in June.
Morgan Freeman played Cross in Paramount's "Kiss the Girls," which grossed $60 million domestically in 1997 and "Along Came a Spider," which grossed $74 million domestically in 2001.
Perry has grossed $1 billion in revenue from his 10 films, books, plays and DVD library.
He wrote, directed, produced and stars in the upcoming "Madea's Big Happy Family."
