Oscar-winning actress Frances McDormand will make her animated feature debut by voicing the villain in DreamWorks Animation's "Madagascar 3."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer and Jada Pinkett Smith will return in their roles as big-game animals who escape a New York zoo and end up on an African coast island.
The new film will focus on the animals as they reunite to try and find their way home by joining a traveling circus.
McDormand will voice an obsessed animal control officer who sets out to capture the animals.
Eric Darnell, who co-directed the previous two films, will direct "Madagascar 3" on his own.
Noah Baumbach wrote the script.
Mireille Soria and Mark Swift are producing.
The 2005 original grossed $532.6 million worldwide while the second movie, 2008's "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa," made $603.9 million.
"Madagascar 3" is scheduled to be released on May 18, 2012.
