The "Bake Off" begins in the Makeup Category for the Oscar race.
Former Business Representative of MAHS Local 706, Academy Governor Leonard Engelman spoke with Monsters and Critics and gave us the low down on the seven films in competition in the Makeup category for the 83rd Academy Awards.
The films are:
“Alice in Wonderland”
“Barney’s Version”
“The Fighter”
“Jonah Hex”
“True Grit”
“The Way Back”
“The Wolfman”
Twice nominated for an Oscar, Edouard "Ed" F. Henriques is in the running for "The Way Back." Oscar nominated artist Christien Tinsley is up for "Jonah Hex." Then "Barney’s Version," starring Paul Giamatti, may see Adrien Morot up for a first-time Oscar nomination.
Will this be a second Oscar for Valli O'Reilly, who did Dustin Hoffman's makeup in "Barney's Version"? Valli won an Oscar for "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events" with Bill Corso back in 2004. Or will it be a first time win for "True Grit's" Thomas Nellen? Emmy-winning artist Donald Mowat may earn his first Oscar nomination for his work in "The Fighter," and perhaps "The Wolfman's" Rick Baker will walk away with a 7th Oscar win.
Saturday, January 22, all members of the Academy’s Makeup Branch will be invited to view 10-minute excerpts from each of the seven shortlisted films.
Following the screenings, these members will vote to nominate three films for final Oscar consideration.
The 83rd Academy Awards nominations will be announced live on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at 5:30 a.m. PT in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.
Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2010 will be presented on Sunday, February 27, 2011, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center, and televised live by the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 200 countries worldwide.
