Barbra Streisand is in talks to star in a big screen remake of the Broadway musical "Gypsy" for Warner Bros.
According to Variety, Joel Silver is producing. There is no writer or director attached yet.
Warner Bros. made the 1962 film adaptation that starred Rosalind Russell and Natalie Wood.
The movie's screenplay was based on the book for the 1959 musical "Gypsy: A Musical Fable" by Arthur Laurents, adapted from "Gypsy: A Memoir" by Gypsy Rose Lee.
Stephen Sondheim wrote the lyrics for songs composed by Jule Styne.
Streisand would play the infamous stage mother Rose Hovick, mother of burlesque dancer Gypsy Rose Lee.
Ethel Merman played Rose on the stage while Russell played the role in the movie.
Streisand can be currently seen in "Little Fockers." Her last lead role was in 1996's "The Mirror Has Two Faces."
