Jon Favreau out of 'Iron Man 3'
By Adnan Tezer Dec 15, 2010, 20:25 GMT
Jon Favreau will not direct the third installment of Marvel’s "Iron Man" franchise.
According to Variety, no reason was given other than Marvel is looking to keep the franchise fresh with a new director while being able to keep costs manageable.
"Iron Man 3" is still set for a May 3, 2013, release date.
Favreau helped launch the franchise in 2008 with "Iron Man," which starred Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man/Tony Stark, and earned $585 million worldwide.
The sequel, released over this past summer, grossed $621 million worldwide.
Favreau is currently editing the sci-fi Western "Cowboys & Aliens" for Universal and DreamWorks, to be released next summer.
He is also developing Disney's new franchise "Magic Kingdom," about a family caught in Disneyland as all of the characters and rides in the park come to life.
