Leonardo DiCaprio will star in and co-produce the long-awaited screen adaptation of Erik Larson's acclaimed non-fiction novel "The Devil in the White City."
According to Variety, DiCaprio will produce through his Appian Way production company with his production partner Jennifer Killoran, along with Double Feature's Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher.
There is no studio, director or writer attached yet.
The novel spent three years on the New York Times bestseller list, has sold 2.3 million copies and has been translated into 17 languages.
The true story intertwines the lives of Daniel H. Burnham, the brilliant architect behind the legendary 1893 Chicago World's Fair; and Dr. H.H. Holmes, the serial killer who used the fair to lure his victims to their death in his elaborately constructed "Murder Castle."
DiCaprio will play the serial killer Holmes.
Kathryn Bigelow was attached to direct and produce at one point, and Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner were also developing an adaptation for Paramount.
