Angela Lansbury will co-star in 20th Century Fox's "Mr. Popper's Penguins."
According to Variety, Mark Waters is directing a cast that includes Jim Carrey, Carla Gugino, James Tupper, Clark Gregg, Ophelia Lovibond, Philip Baker Hall and David Krumholtz.
The film will be a modern update of the 1938 children's book by Richard and Florence Atwater. Sean Anders, John Morris and Nick Stoller wrote the adaptation.
John Davis is producing through his Davis Entertainment.
In the film, Mr. Popper (Carrey) is a high-powered, New York business man who suddenly inherits six penguins and must deal with the difficulties, at home and at work, of taking care of the animals.
Lansbury will play Mrs. Van Gundy, the owner of a local pub that Mr. Popper is trying to acquire.
Shooting is underway in New York with an August 12 release date set.
This will be Lansbury's first film role since her supporting role as Aunt Adelaide in 2005's "Nanny McPhee."
