Fox 2000's big screen adaptation of Yann Martel's novel "Life of Pi" has found its leading man after a long search.
According to Variety, Ang Lee will direct the 3D fantasy adventure with shooting set to begin in January in Taiwan and India.
Fox will release the film on December 14, 2012.
Following an extensive search that saw over 3,000 young men audition, Lee cast 17-year-old newcomer Suraj Sharma in the title role.
David Magee ("Finding Neverland") wrote the adaptation. Gill Netter is producing.
The novel tells the story of a boy lost at sea for 227 days in a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger, a hyena, a zebra and an orangutan after the ship carrying his family and its zoo animals sinks.
Lee's last film was 2009's "Taking Woodstock" from Focus Features.
