Steven Spielberg will direct the adaptation of Daniel H. Wilson's post-apocalyptic sci-fi novel "Robopocalypse" for DreamWorks and Disney.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, production will begin in January 2012 for a 2013 release.
The novel, which will be released on June 7, 2011, focuses on a group of humans struggling for survival in a futuristic, robot-dominated world.
Drew Goddard ("Cloverfield") wrote the adaptation.
Spielberg is currently shooting the World War I drama "War Horse," which will open on December 28, 2011.
"Robopocalypse" was one of the projects Spielberg was considering earlier in the year before he decided on "War Horse."
