Emma Stone will play the role of Gwen Stacy, opposite Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man, in Sony's untitled "Spider-Man" reboot.
According to Variety, Stone had been a frontrunner for one of the two female lead roles, which supposedly included Mary Jane Watson.
Marc Webb is directing with James Vanderbilt writing the script.
Production begins in December and will be released in 3D on July 3, 2012.
Stone has been a constant for Sony, with roles in the studio's "Superbad" and "Zombieland." Her latest Sony role is in the current "Easy A," which has grossed over $40 million since it opened.
Stone will be seen next year in Warner Bros.' "Crazy, Stupid, Love," opposite Steve Carell and Ryan Gosling, and in "The Help," with Bryce Dallas Howard, Sissy Spacek and Viola Davis.
