Chris Pine is in early talks to star in DreamWorks' drama "Welcome to People."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will mark the directorial debut of "Star Trek" and "Transformers" co-screenwriter Alex Kurtzman.
Kurtzman wrote the screenplay with his writing partner Roberto Orci and Jody Lambert.
Kurtzman and Orci are producing through their Paper Products company, along with Bobby Cohen.
The story follows a man (Pine) who must deliver $150,000 in cash to an alcoholic sister he didn't know he had until the death of their father. He also becomes involved in the life of her angry 12-year-old son.
Pine last starred in "Star Trek," which Kurtzman and Orci wrote. He is currently filming the Fox comedy "This Means War," and will be in the Fox thriller "Unstoppable," which opens in November.
Kurtzman, with Orci, co-wrote and produced "Cowboys and Aliens," which DreamWorks and Universal will open in July. The pair is also co-writing the "Star Trek" sequel at Paramount for a June 2012 release.
