Paul Haggis is in negotiations to take over writing duties for the feature adaptation of the late-'80s TV series "The Equalizer."
It is unclear at this time whether he would also take over directing duties.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Russell Crowe has long been attached as a star of the project.
The original CBS series "The Equalizer" followed former secret agent Robert McCall, played by Edward Woodward, turned vigilante who provided services for clients free of charge, on the condition they returned his help if he ever needed it.
Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch of Escape Artists are producing along with Tony Eldridge of Lonetree Entertainment, Mace Neufeld, Alex Siskin and Michael Sloan.
Haggis just directed Crowe in the upcoming Lionsgate thriller "The Next Three Days,"
which opens in November.
Haggis recently wrote and directed "In the Valley of Elah" and co-wrote the James Bond films "Quantum of Solace" and "Casino Royale."
Crowe most recently starred in "Robin Hood" and "State of Play."
