British actor David Oyelowo has joined the cast of DreamWorks' "The Help," opposite Emma Stone, Viola Davis and Bryce Dallas Howard.
According to Variety, the film is based on the book by Kathryn Stockett.
Tate Taylor is adapting the script and directing.
The film centers on a community in 1960s Jackson, Mississippi that is shattered when a young female writer interviews a maid, who speaks candidly about her experiences at the beginning of the civil-rights movement.
Chris Columbus, Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe are producing through 1492 Pictures. Taylor is also producing with his partner, Brunson Green, through Harbinger Pictures.
Oyelowo will star in Lee Daniel's "Selma," opposite Hugh Jackman and will be seen next year in Fox's "Rise of the Apes."
