British actor Stephen Fry has boarded the cast of Warner Bros.' "Sherlock Holmes 2," opposite Robert Downey Jr.
According to Variety, Fry will play Mycroft Holmes, the older brother of Sherlock Holmes.
Mycroft, who appears in four of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories, is smarter than his younger brother but lazier.
Downey Jr., Jude Law and Rachel McAdams will reprise their roles from the original with Noomi Rapace and Daniel Day-Lewis joining the cast.
Guy Ritchie returns as director with Dan Lin, Joel Silver, Susan Downey and Lionel Wigram producing.
Warner Bros. has set a Dec. 16, 2011, release date for the film.
Kieran and Michele Mulroney wrote the script with plot details being kept under wraps.
Fry is best known in the United States for the 2008 television series "Stephen Fry in America." He also appears on the Fox series "Bones."
