Carla Gugino has joined the cast of 20th Century Fox's family film "Mr. Popper's Penguins," starring Jim Carrey.
According to Variety, Mark Waters is directing the film, which will be a modern update of the beloved 1938 children's book by Richard and Florence Atwater.
John Davis is producing through his Davis Entertainment.
The book tells the story of house painter Mr. Popper, whose dreams of Arctic exploration lead him to write letters to real explorers.
One of the explorers sends Mr. Popper a penguin, and before he knows it, he has a litter of 12 penguins. In order to feed the penguins, Mr. Popper forms Popper's Performing Penguins, a stage act that goes on tour.
In the film, Mr. Popper (Carrey) is a high-powered, New York business man who suddenly inherits six penguins and must deal with the difficulties, at home and at work, of taking care of the animals.
Gugino will be seen in Zack Snyder's upcoming action-fantasy "Sucker Punch."
