Kyle Chandler and Elle Fanning have booked the leads in J.J. Abrams' secretive new sci-fi film "Super 8."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, shooting is underway in West Virginia.
Ron Eldard, Noah Emmerich, Gabriel Basso, Joel Courtney, Riley Griffiths, Ryan Lee and Zach Mills have also been cast.
Abrams wrote the screenplay, and is producing along with his Bad Robot partner Bryan Burk and Steven Spielberg.
Paramount, which has released no plot details, is planning on a summer 2011 release.
All that is known about the film is that it will take place in 1979 and be an homage to Spielberg's '70s and '80s science fiction films such as "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial."
Chandler is best known for his starring role on NBC's "Friday Night Lights" for four seasons. His film credits include "King Kong," "The Kingdom" and "The Day the Earth Stood Still."
Fanning stars in Sofia Coppola's "Somewhere," which won the 2010 Venice Film Festival's Golden Lion Award. She has also appeared in "Babel" and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button."
