'The Town' takes off over weekend

Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures' co-production of Ben Affleck's crime thriller "The Town" won the domestic box office over the weekend as it debuted with $23.8 million.
According to Variety, that represents Warner's highest-grossing September opening, beating "Tim Burton's Corpse Bride," which earned $19.1 million during its first weekend of wide release in 2005.
Sony/Screen Gems' "Easy A" debuted at No. 2 with $18.2 million.
Universal's horror-thriller "Devil" opened at No. 3 with $12.6 million.
Sony/Screen Gems' "Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D" placed No. 4 with $10.1 million for a domestic cumulative of $44 million.
Lionsgate's 3D cartoon "Alpha and Omega" opened at No. 5 with $9.2 million.
