Sacha Baron Cohen has signed on to star in an untitled Freddie Mercury biopic for Graham King's GK Films.
According to Variety, Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal's Tribeca Productions will co-produce along with Queen Films.
Peter Morgan ("Frost/Nixon") will write the script.
The film will focus on the years leading up to Queen's appearance at the Live Aid concert in 1985.
Production will begin next year.
Mercury formed the rock band Queen in 1970 and was its lead singer until his death in 1991 at the age of 45. Queen has sold more than 170 million albums. Its iconic songs include "We Will Rock You," "We Are the Champions" and "Bohemian Rhapsody."
Baron Cohen is currently shooting Martin Scorsese's 3D "The Invention of Hugo Cabret," which is also produced by GK Films.
Morgan wrote "Hereafter," directed by Clint Eastwood, which will open later this fall.
