'Evil' is good for weekend box office

Sony's 3D "Resident Evil: Afterlife" won the domestic box office over the weekend as it opened with $27.7 million.
According to Variety, Sony’s "Takers" took the No. 2 spot with $6.1 million for a domestic cumulative of $48.1 million.
Focus Features' George Clooney thriller "The American" finished No. 3 with $5.9 million for a domestic cumulative of $28.3 million.
20th Century Fox's "Machete" landed in the No. 4 spot with $4.2 million for a domestic cumulative of $20.8 million.
Warner Bros.' Drew Barrymore -Justin Long romantic comedy "Going the Distance" placed No. 5 with $3.8 million for a domestic cumulative of $14 million.
