German director Robert Schwentke has signed on to direct Universal’s adaptation of the Dark Horse comic "RIPD," that has Ryan Reynolds attached to star.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Neal Moritz and Dark Horse’s Mike Richardson are producing. Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi wrote the script based on Peter Lenkov’s comic.
The story centers on a murdered cop (Reynolds) who is recruited to work in the Rest in Peace Department (RIPD), a police force comprised of ghosts that battles spirits unwilling to depart the world.
Schwentke’s American films include 2005’s "Flightplan" and 2009’s "The Time Traveler’s Wife."
Schwentke directed Summit’s adaptation of the DC/Wildstorm comic "Red," which opens in October. He is also attached to direct Summit’s remake of "The Osterman Weekend."
