John Cusack to quoth 'The Raven'

John Cusack will play Edgar Allan Poe in the fictional thriller "The Raven." According to The Hollywood Reporter, James McTeigue will direct.Aaron Ruder and Glen Basner of FilmNation are producing.The fictional story is set in 1849 during the last five days of Poe's life in which he partners with a detective in search of a serial killer who has kidnapped Poe’s fiancé and whose murders mimic Poe’s work. Shooting begins Oct. 25 in Budapest and Serbia.Joaquin Phoenix and Ewan McGregor were in talks to play Poe at several points during development of the project. Jeremy Renner had been attached as the detective but left the project last week to work on "Mission: Impossible 4."

Cusack last starred in "Hot Tub Time Machine."

McTeigue directed "Ninja Assassin" and "V for Vendetta."
