Cyrus Voris and Ethan Reiff, who wrote 2008's "Kung Fu Panda," have been hired to write the sequel to Sony’s summer hit "The Karate Kid."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Will Smith produced the film that starred his son Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan.
With a budget around $40 million, "The Karate Kid" has grossed nearly $300 million worldwide.
Columbia would not reveal the setting or plot for the new movie. It is expected that Jaden Smith and Chan will reprise their roles.
Smith is producing the sequel with his Overbrook Entertainment partners James
Lassiter and Ken Stovitz.
Voris and Reiff created Showtime's "Sleeper Cell" and wrote the script "Nottingham," that evolved into this year's Russell Crowe-starrer "Robin Hood."
