Warner Brothers and Paramount have offers out to Sandra Bullock and Tom Hanks to star in their co-production of the post-9/11 novel "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close."
According to Variety, the project has not yet been greenlit.
The Jonathan Safran Foer novel, set in 2003, focuses on a 9-year-old boy who finds a key in a vase that belonged to his father, who died in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, and searches to find the lock that goes with it.
Scott Rudin is producing with Stephen Daldry directing from Eric Roth’s adaptation.
This would be Bullock’s first role since winning an Oscar for her performance in "The Blind Side."
Hanks will next be seen opposite Julia Roberts in Univeral's comedy-drama "Larry Crowne," which Hanks directed and produced. He also co-wrote the script with Nia Vardalos.
Warners and Paramount co-produced "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button."
