Jim Carrey will star in 20th Century Fox's family film "Mr. Popper's Penguins," the feature film adaptation of the beloved 1938 children's book.
According to Variety, Mark Waters will direct a modernized version of the book.
John Davis is producing through his production company Davis Entertainment.
In the film, Mr. Popper is a high-powered, New York business man who suddenly inherits six penguins and must deal with the difficulties, at home and at work, of taking care of the animals.
Fox acquired screen rights to Richard and Florence Atwater's classic children’s book a year ago.
The book tells the story of a house painter whose dreams of Arctic exploration lead him to write letters to real explorers.
One of the explorers sends Mr. Popper a penguin, and before he knows it, he has a litter of 12 penguins. In order to feed the penguins, Mr. Popper forms Popper's Performing Penguins, a stage act that goes on tour.
