Michael Douglas to get Swiss film honour
Aug 20, 2010, 14:52 GMT
Zurich - Michael Douglas is to be honoured by the Zurich Film Festival for his life's work but will not be able to accept the award personally because he has cancer, organizers said Friday.
Douglas' friend Danny DeVito will travel to Zurich in early October to pick up the Golden Icon prize on his behalf. The festival runs from September 23 to October 3.
Douglas, 65, and Devito have been friends since their university days when they shared a room together. DeVito directed Douglas in the marriage drama War of the Roses in 1989.
A year earlier, Douglas won an Oscar for his role as a greedy financier in Oliver Stone's film Wall Street.
His new film, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, is planned to open in US cinemas on September 24.
The actor announced this week he is undergoing treatment for a throat tumour, but doctors are optimistic he will make a full recovery.
The Hollywood star is married to his second wife, fellow Oscar winner Catherine Zeta-Jones, 40, with whom he has two children.
