Ving Rhames and Henry Simmons have been cast in Gyre Entertainment’s independent sports drama "From the Rough."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tom Felton is also in talks to join the film.
Taraji P. Henson has already been cast as Cassandra Turner, a women’s swim coach at an African American university who tries to rebuild the men’s golf team. The real-life story is based on Dr. Catana Starks, the first female head coach of an NCAA Division I men’s team. Starks coached the men’s golf team at Tennessee State University.
Simmons will play the director of the school’s athletic department who butts heads with Turner. Rhames will play a knowledgeable veteran maintenance man at the college. Felton will play a British golf hustler whom Turner recruits for the team.
Pierre Bagley is producing and directing from a Michael A. Critelli script.
Shooting begins in New Orleans in early October.
Rhames will be seen in Dimension’s horror film "Piranha 3D," which opens August 20.
Simmons is best known for his role on ABC’s "NYPD Blue," and recently appeared in the films "World’s Greatest Dad," "Madea’s Family Reunion," "Something New" and "Are We There Yet?"
Felton has played Draco Malfoy in all of the "Harry Potter" movies, the last two of which will be released by Warner Bros. in November and July.
