By Adnan Tezer Aug 14, 2010, 2:36 GMT
Michael Vartan will star in the action thriller "Colombiana," opposite Zoe Saldana.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is being produced and co-written by Luc Besson with Olivier Megaton ("Transporter 3") directing.
Besson wrote the script with Robert Mark Kamen; the two have collaborated on "Taken," "The Transporter" and "The Fifth Element."
Besson is producing with Pierre-Ange Le Pogam and Ariel Zeitoun.
The film centers on a woman (Saldana) who witnessed her parents' murder in Bogota as a child. She grows up to become an assassin by day and seeks out the mobster responsible for the deaths of her parents by night.
Vartan will play Saldana's artist boyfriend, who is in the dark as to what she does for a living.
Production will begin later this month in Chicago, New Orleans and Mexico City.
A release date of Sept. 2, 2011 has been set.
Vartan stars opposite Jada Pinkett Smith in TNT's hospital drama "Hawthorne." He starred in 2005's "Monster-in-Law," opposite Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda.
