By Adnan Tezer Aug 10, 2010, 2:18 GMT
Richard Linklater will direct Jack Black in the Castle Rock/Mandalay Vision black comedy "Bernie."
According to Variety, Shirley MacLaine has also been cast.
Linklater and Black previously worked together on the comedy "School of Rock."
Ginger Sledge and Mandalay Vision's Celine Rattray will produce along with Castle Rock's Martin Shafer and Liz Glotzer.
The film is based on the 1998 Texas Monthly magazine article "Midnight in the Garden of East Texas" written by Skip Hollandsworth.
Linklater and Hollandsworth wrote the script.
The film is based on the true story of Bernie Tiede (Black), a mortician and community leader in a small east Texas town who strikes up an unlikely friendship with a wealthy widow (MacLaine) that ends fatally.
Shooting is scheduled to begin in October in Texas.
