New York - Oscar-winning American actress Patricia Neal has died at the age of 84, it was announced on Monday.
The actress, who was once married to author Roald Dahl, passed away at her home in Edgartown on Martha's Vineyard on Sunday.
Neal won an Oscar for her part in Hud, starring alongside Paul Newman. She also won a Tony during a glittering career on Broadway.
She had five children with Dahl, and the supermodel Sophie Dahl is one of her grandchildren.
Her acting debut came opposite future US president Ronald Reagan in 1949. Three years later, she married Dahl.
However, a series of strokes cut short her later career. She was divorced in 1983 from Dahl, who died in 1990.
Neal also starred in the television series The Waltons, but lost out on potentially her most famous role, Mrs Robinson, in the eponymous movie due to ill health.
