William Petersen has joined the cast of Tony Kaye's independent high school drama "Detachment."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kaye ("American History X") is directing an ensemble cast that includes Adrien Brody, Bryan Cranston, James Caan, Marcia Gay Harden, Christina Hendricks and Lucy Liu.
Carl Lund wrote the script that focuses on a detached substitute teacher (Brody) who becomes emotionally invested in the students and teachers at the troubled school where he works.
Petersen will play a Vietnam veteran who teaches history.
Shooting is underway in New York with Bingo Gubelmann, Austin Stark, Benji Kohn and Greg Shapiro producing.
This is Petersen’s first screen role since departing CBS' "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation." He played police investigator Gil Grissom on the show from 2000 to 2009 before leaving to focus his attention on stage work in Chicago.
