Morgan Freeman, Harry Connick Jr. and Ashley Judd are in talks to star in Alcon Entertainment's 3D family film "Dolphin Tale."
According to Variety, Charles Martin Smith ("Air Bud") will direct from a screenplay by Karen Janszen ("A Walk to Remember") with rewrites by Smith and Jordan Roberts.
Alcon’s Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson and Richard Ingber will produce with Warner Brothers distributing.
Principal photography begins September 27 in Clearwater, Florida.
The film is based on the true story of Winter the dolphin and the young boy who befriends her after she loses her tail in a crab trap.
The story will focus on the boy who rallies friends and family to save Winter by persuading a doctor to create a prosthetic part to replace the dolphin's missing tail.
Freeman will portray the doctor and Connick Jr. a marine biologist who rescues Winter. Judd will play the boy's mother.
Freeman and Judd have worked together on "Kiss the Girls" and "High Crimes."
Connick Jr. and Judd starred opposite each other in "Bug."
