Aaron Sorkin to take on John Edwards

Aaron Sorkin will make his feature directorial debut with an untitled biopic on politician John Edwards.

According to Variety, Sorkin will adapt Andrew Young's "The Politician: An Insider's Account of John Edwards's Pursuit of the Presidency and the Scandal That Brought Him Down." The book is an account of Young’s time as an Edwards aide going back to when Young volunteered for Edwards' Senate campaign in 1998.

Edwards served as a U.S. Senator for North Carolina from 1999 to 2005. He was the Democratic nominee for Vice President in 2004, and was a candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2004 and 2008.

He would admit in 2010 that he had an affair with aide Rielle Hunter and fathered a child out of wedlock while his wife was fighting breast cancer.

Sorkin is best known for creating the popular NBC show "The West Wing." He wrote the script for David Fincher’s "The Social Network," which Sony will release October 1.

Sorkin's other credits include "Charlie Wilson's War," "The American President" and "A Few Good Men."
