By Adnan Tezer Jul 1, 2010, 2:30 GMT
Andy Serkis has been cast in 20th Century Fox's "Planet of the Apes" prequel "Rise of the Apes."
According to Variety, James Franco, Freida Pinto and John Lithgow have already been cast.
Rupert Wyatt will direct from a script by Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa, who will produce with Chernin Entertainment's Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark.
Shooting begins next month with a June 24, 2011 release date set.
Set in present day San Francisco, the film deals with the aftermath of genetic engineering experiments that lead to intelligence in apes and a war for supremacy.
Serkis will play the lead chimp Caesar, who leads the uprising among the apes after having been raised by Lithgow and Franco's father and son scientist characters.
Serkis starred as Gollum in Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings" franchise and as Kong in Jackson's "King Kong." He will next appear in Steven Spielberg's "The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn."
