After several potholes, Paramount’s remake of "Footloose" is back on track.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Craig Brewer is writing and directing.
25-year-old dancer Kenny Wormald, a newcomer to film who is best known for his appearances on the MTV series "Dancelife," has been cast as Ren. Kevin Bacon played the role in the 1984 original.
Dennis Quaid will play Reverend Moore, the role John Lithgow played in the original, and Miles Teller will play Willard, originally played by Chris Penn. Julianne Hough ("Dancing With the Stars") had previously been cast in the role of Ariel, originally played by Lori Singer.
Craig Zadan, a producer on the original "Footloose," is producing along with Neil Meron, Brad Weston and Dylan Sellers.
Oscar-winning songwriter Dean Pitchford, who wrote the screenplay and songs for the original movie, is executive producing.
Director Kenny Ortega was set to direct the film last year with Zac Efron attached. After Efron dropped out of the film, Chace Crawford was set to star until he dropped out in April. Ortega would leave the film due to creative differences.
The film has an April 1, 2011 release date.
