Mark Waters is in advanced talks to direct 20th Century Fox's adaptation of the beloved 1938 children's book "Mr. Popper's Penguins."
According to Variety, Jim Carrey, Jack Black and Owen Wilson have been mentioned as possibly joining the film’s cast.
John Davis is producing through his Davis Entertainment company.
Director Noah Baumbach and actor Ben Stiller were originally attached to the film but are no longer involved with the project.
The story follows Mr. Popper, a house painter, whose fantasies of exploring the Arctic lead him to come into possession of twelve Adelie penguins. When the penguins start to eat him out of house and home, Mr. Popper forms the stage act Popper's Performing Penguins.
Waters’ credits include "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past," "Freaky Friday" and "Mean Girls."
