Neal McDonough is in talks to join the cast of Marvel's "The First Avenger: Captain America."
McDonough would play Timothy Aloysius Cadwallader "Dum Dum" Dugan. Dugan was a member of the Howling Commandos, an elite squad of soldiers who battle the Nazis alongside Captain America during World War II.
Dugan made his first appearance in the comics in the early 1960s, and is known for his marksmanship talents with a rifle as well as his mustache and bowler hat.
Chris Evans has been cast as the titular superhero. Hugo Weaving will play the villain, Red Skull. Sebastian Stan, Toby Jones and Hayley Atwell have also been cast.
According to Variety, Paramount will distribute for Marvel with a release date set for July 22, 2011.
Joe Johnston is directing from a script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
McDonough appeared on ABC's "Desperate Housewives" in the 2008-09 season. He also co-starred in HBO's "Band of Brothers," and the films "Minority Report," "Flags of our Fathers" and "88 Minutes."
